New material coming soon

ConnectiCon is over and I'm working on some new stuff. It was fun being a guest. 2 songs, a website, and at least one game coming up fairly soon.

-Matt 8/2/07

Quick update and happy 4th

I've been out of the loop for a few weeks (new job and moved twice) but I've got some cool upcoming things, so expect more from me coming soon.

Really psyched up about ConnectiCon in just over a week too. Hope to see some of you there!

-Matt 7/4/07

Headlining Musical Guest at ConnectiCon

I'm extremely excited to announce that I'm doing Anime Songwriting Workshop again at ConnectiCon - and also this year's headlining musical performer! I'm teaming up with more great guests - Vic Mignogna (voice of Edward Elric in Full Metal Alchemist) and legacy composer George "The Fat Man" Sanger.

Friday, 1:30pm-2:30pm Anime Songwriting Workshop - Panel Room 1, Room 11/12
Friday, 6:45pm-8:15pm Matt2East Performance - Main Events

My goal for the workshop this time is to invite interested participants to perform our newly created material with me at the concert for the large crowd. This is an a amazing opportunity for me, and I'm extremely grateful to the ConnectiCon staff.

Anime Boston 2007 Recap

Wow, where to begin? Playing piano at the Cherry Blossom Ball was one of the coolest things I've ever had the privilege of doing. The coordinators worked really hard, and the event drew over 1,000 people. It was like the ballroom scene in Final Fantasy VIII come true.

My panel went fine. It was interesting for me to let go of some of the creative control to the other panelists, but I learned a lot in doing so. People seemed to really enjoy the chance to record their voice, and Louden and Beav did a great job keeping things light. I also really appreciate the opportunity to be interviewed for The Funimation Channel by Troy Baker. The next song is gonna be called "Secret Ninja Academy" and I'm starting to assemble the studio team and arrangement.

I stayed up all night on Saturday with some friends, going to the rave, and then just hanging out in the hotel lobby. I got to play the piano in the little corner again, and met some other piano players who I thought were really talented. I also attended the masquerade and cosplay chess for the first time this year, and I was amazed at the creativity of the participants. The anime scene is so vibrant and visual, and fans really put everything into their costumes.

To me, the best part of all is always meeting new and wonderful people. That's what keeps me coming back. So thanks so much to everyone I met. You're all awesome, and I hope to stay in touch.

Just wait 'til next year!

Workshop Facilitators Announced

I've got some really cool guest facilitators who are
helping with the workshop this time around.

Online Entertainment. Duncan will also bring his
equipment to record on-site voice acting from
participants.

Louden Noxious - Kaiju Big Battel play-by-play
commentator.

Adrien Warner - Pink haired singer from the "Haste
Haste" recording.

Chris Payne-Taylor - Stilettos-era New York City punk
rocker recidivist.

It's gonna be a lot of fun! Please come or help
spread the word.

Anime Songwriting Workshop @ Anime Boston

Date: Saturday, April 21st

Time: 2-4pm

Place: Hynes Convention Center - Sheraton Grand Ballroom.

List of panelists coming soon.

-Matt 3/26/2007

Tired but satisfied

GDC was awesome and "Haste Haste" is finally done. I'll probably elaborate on this but I'm too beat right now.

-Matt 3/14/2007

GDC Next Week

I'll be providing press coverage for GamersInfo.net and meeting a lot of people. It will be great to visit San Francisco and get out of Boston too. I'm also looking forward to meeting many of my online business contacts in real life. Thanks to Kelly and Heather for the press pass.

-Matt 3/2/2007

2EastMusic @ Anime Boston 2007

I'm extremely excited to announce that I'll be involved with Anime Boston, www.animeboston.org  this year as a live piano player, and also running my Anime Songwriting Workshop panel. This is something I've worked extremely hard to be able to do over the last year, and in many ways represents the core of what I'm about professionally and personally.

As a performer and pseudo-icon, it also gives me the opportunity to entertain thousands of gamers over the course of 3 days. From a professional / marketing perspective, it also offers a way to introduce con attendees to products that I'm involved with, and interact with fans in a unique way.
Anime Boston runs from April 20th to 22nd at the Hynes Convention Center, and the event draws around 10,000 people.

Anyway, I'm really psyched about Anime Boston and I know it will be a lot of fun. I have a lot of preparation to do over the next two months. ^_^

My store is finally online - see "store" section. I'm licensing RPG music at dirt cheap rates, and 2EastMusic shirts are finally available online.

"Haste Haste" Recording Last Night

We recorded vocals for Anime Songwriting Workshop last night with Zach Camara at ZNC Studios in Acton, MA. I'm extremely happy with the quality of the work we did, and it was also a lot of (and I'm used to pulling my hair out during recording sessions.) Thanks so much to Zach, Adrien, Jason and Sarah for their enthusiasm. Now it's up to Ryan to mix and master the track. Can't wait until it's done!

-Matt 1/28/07

Fantasy RPG Music Content Packs

I'm developing my own line of fantasy RPG music discounted far below my normal freelance rates. If you like what you hear, want music for your project, but can't afford my normal rates, please contact me and ask about the catalogue. I'm hoping to launch the 2EastMusic online store soon.

-Matt 1/19/07

Anime Songwriting Workshop Update

Adrien Warner is performing lead vocals. Zach Camara, of ZNC Studio is our studio engineer. Ryan McCormack is performing live guitar, as well as mixing and mastering. We are recording on the weekend of January 27th-28th.

-Matt 12/19/06

That's A Wrap

The Live Action Zelda sequel, better known as "Zii" is done with shooting. Now we go into post-production and focus on marketing. I really hope it comes out as well as it seems like it could. Being on the set was a lot of fun.

2EastMusic.com Turns 1 Year Old

Bio section updated, review added.

-Matt 11/19/06

Quick Thanks

Thanks so much to everyone who came to my workshop at Bakuretsu Con. I had an incredible time the whole weekend. I'll be writing an "artist diary" type piece about it and posting it online soon. Check back later.

Shirts Available

I made some 2EastMusic.com shirts to sell as souvenirs at my workshop. Here is what they look like.

http://www.2eastmusic.com/images/photo/2eastshirt2.jpg
http://www.2eastmusic.com/images/photo/2eastshirt1.jpg

I didn't make many, because I'm not really sure if people will be interested. From my experience in bands, shirts sell better than cd's at live shows. Besides, I'm giving music away to fans as it is. Anyway, shirts are $10, and they're available in all adult sizes. Please let me know if you are interested in purchasing one via email or chat, because I don't have an official storefront up right now. I'm extremely psyched to be a part of the convention!

-Matt 10/27/06

Stuff In The Works

Ok, I haven't posted any news in almost a month, but it's not because nothing is happening. In fact, the opposite is true. Right now I'm developing a number of exciting projects, but not yet at a level to make announcements about them. Check out some recent samples for hints of what's to come.

Oh, and unfortunately PansaCon 2006 was cancelled so I won't be playing there. I'm still working very hard to launch a live performance and outreach component to what I do. Right now it's up in the air, but I've had some positive feedback so far.

-Matt 10/12/06

Live Performance

I was invited to perform live music at PansaCon 2006. I will also be conducting a panel called "Anime Songwriting Workshop." I'm really excited about it. More info coming soon.

Top 10 Names for a "Hip-Hop RPG"

I've been dabbling into hip-hop a bit lately, and it makes me think of some goofy ideas...

9. Fubu Fantasy

8. The Chronicles Of Comptonia

7. Get Rich Or Die Triforce

6. The Game

5. Grand Theft Airship

4. WoW-Tang Clan

Behold, my new powers...

*Evil villain laugh.* I started learning Reason today, which is an amazing program. I made a new mix of classic "Battle" posted in the music section. Though I'm still a n00b with Reason, I feel like I'm improving. All feedback welcome.

Guest Lecturer

Wednesday May 31, 2006 - 9:00 AM @ The Bromfield School
Harvard, MA 01451

I'm very proud to return as a guest lecturer at my high school music theory class. Dominant themes in my lesson plan include the recording industry, the video game industry, marketing, songwriting, and live performance. I will be showcasing music from my web demo, and also busting out some old piano/vocal favorites (to show that I still know how to rock out.) Above all, my goal is to help in any way I can, and to have fun!

Additionally, a reporter from the local paper will stop by the school to build awareness for the class of dedicated musicians. A huge thanks to my teacher Mr. Thomas Reynolds, Keelan Cosgrave, and Nathan Lamb from The Harvard Hillside.

-Matt 5/28/06

Recap: Anime Boston

I had a wonderful and unforgettable time! In particular, I found the opportunity to perform cover songs from my favorite games and anime (Final Fantasy, Neon Genesis: Evangelion, Pokemon and more) on live piano, and meet some of my favorite heroes and heroines in costume too.  I'd like to extend a very special thanks to everyone who listened, took pictures, requested songs and "glomped" me. If you haven't done so yet, please write to me or add me on MySpace. I love you all!

Basically, I'll be there from Friday through Sunday mostly just hanging out having fun with my friends. I will also be handing out flyers with my small "street team" in a casual manner. A huge thanks to James Lewis at Digital Light Design for the artistic and flashy flyers.

-Matt 5/24/06

Drummer's Delight

I wrote some boss music called "Menace." The time signature is 7 beats per measure. Try counting it!

-Matt 5/21/06

New Music

Designing your own RPG? Need music?? In any case, I created some music for a main theme, called "A Legend Begins." On a side note, I'm sad about missing E3 this week. Waaah!

Indie film "A Work Of Fiction" is resuming production this summer. I'll be showcasing some new material for producer Nate Larson, on the incredible grand piano in the ballroom. A big thanks to Nate Larson and Robert Grier.

Warlords Action Film Festival

Saturday, April, 27 2006, 7PM @  Bill Bordy Auditorium, Boston, MA 02101
Cost: free

Come check out some great action films. I'm extremely proud to be associated with Warlords, and I really admire the group's talent and dedication. "The Legend Of Zelda: Lost" contains some of my original music, including old staples "Battle," "Epic Struggle," "Manifest Destiny," and new work "Lost In Bolton."

Additionally, I'm one of the actors in the film. I play a goth-punk Stalfos, and get my ass kicked by Link. I really enjoyed learning and performing stage combat for the first time, and can't wait to see the final cut. Mad props to Warlords!

-Matt 4/17/06

Back at the piano

In addition to video game music, I've been getting back into live piano and singing recently. I performed at a college open mic in Oregon last week, and was happy with the support I received. People seemed to really like "Static In My Head" especially. Tomorrow, I'm helping a singing student at Emerson write some music, which is something I'd like to do more of. I'm also looking for a singer to record vocals on a track sometime in the next few months.

-Matt 3/18/06

New Producer

2EastMusic would like to formally welcome producer Ryan McCormack, also known as "Frogs" to the project for Zenix 3d. Additionally, Ryan/Frogs is the bassist for the LA based rock group The Neon Calm.
